Prior to our shoot, River requested that his wardrobe be “as organic and natural” as possible. He also requested that we create reference to the Amazon rainforest to bring attention to its deforestation. Catering was to be all vegan. We created a beautiful image of him holding a Venus fly trap (not included in this set) to illustrate his advocacy of the rainforest. He was quiet and gentle. He gave off major James Dean vibes. The Paper cover was photographed in October 1991 and two years to the month later he was gone.
